Frequently Asked Questions

General Feminine Empowerment and Spirituality

What is the Purpose of the Awakened Woman?

The purpose of the Awakened Woman is to embody and express the profound wisdom, strength, and compassion inherent in feminine energy. She inspires others by living her truth, showing that it’s possible to be both strong and tender, assertive and compassionate, loving and fierce. She knows that her journey is not just about personal growth; it’s about uplifting others and creating a community where authenticity is celebrated. Through her actions, she creates a ripple effect, encouraging those around her to step into their own light and embrace their true selves.

An Awakened Woman is here to expose the shadows - whether they be societal injustices, personal limitations, or emotional wounds - encouraging healing and transformation. By shining a light on these areas, the Awakened Woman includes herself in the journey and invites individuals and communities to confront their fears and biases, cultivating greater understanding and connection.

She teaches the world what love truly means: a powerful force that encompasses radical honesty, acceptance, and empathy. For the Awakened Woman, loving in the most truthful way sometimes requires a fierce commitment to authenticity and justice that challenges the status quo. Being an exposer of shadows and a teacher of true love is not an easy or comfortable path; it demands immense courage and deep trust in a higher essence within herself. Through her actions and presence, she inspires a shift towards more authentic, compassionate relationships and a harmonious world.

What is the Divine Feminine?

The Divine Feminine refers to a broad concept and spiritual archetype that embodies the sacred feminine energy across spiritual and religious traditions. It includes qualities traditionally associated with femininity - intuition, creativity, nurturing, compassion, and wisdom  and is often seen as complementary to the Divine Masculine. Both energies work in tandem to create spiritual balance and harmony.

Across cultures, the Divine Feminine is often personified through goddesses, such as:

  • Mother Mary in Christianity symbolising purity and compassion.
  • Shakti in Hinduism representing the primal creative energy.
  • Isis in Ancient Egyptian mythology representing magic and motherhood.
  • Kwan Yin in Buddhism embodying compassion and mercy.
What is the Dark Feminine?

The Dark Feminine represents the more complex, often misunderstood aspects of femininity that encompass qualities such as rebellion, liberation, sensuality, reclamation, fierce protection and deep emotional depth. Connecting with the Dark Feminine invites women to acknowledge feelings and experiences often deemed negative, such as anger, grief, and fear. This aspect encourages exploration of one's true self, including the ability to challenge societal norms and assert boundaries.

The Dark Feminine is often associated with archetypes like the Crone or the Warrior, embodying wisdom, transformation, and resilience. By embracing this energy, women can tap into their authenticity, creativity, and the capacity for profound change, both within themselves and in the world around them. Ultimately, the Dark Feminine invites a reclamation of power and a holistic understanding of the feminine experience.
What is the Ancient Future?

The Ancient Future is a concept that acknowledges the interconnectedness of ancient wisdom and modern life. It encourages exploration of various spiritual traditions, emphasising the importance of understanding our roots to navigate contemporary challenges. The knowledge of our ancestors teaches us to focus on themes such as community, spirituality, and personal empowerment. This guidance helps us pursue a more harmonious existence while opening new paths for future generations. By integrating these ancient teachings, we advocate for a holistic approach to personal growth and societal healing, inviting us to reclaim our heritage and embrace a future informed by the wisdom of the past. Read more in my article "The Ancient Future".

How do Spirituality and Science Intersect in your Teachings?

My approach honours both spiritual wisdom and scientific understanding. I integrate ancient esoteric knowledge with modern research on women’s health and psychology. This blend helps ground spiritual practices in real-world applications, creating a holistic path for healing and transformation.

Menstruality and Womb Wisdom

What is Womb Wisdom?
Womb Wisdom refers to the deep knowledge and intuition that women can access through their connection to their womb and reproductive health. It encompasses the understanding of menarche, menstrual cycle awareness, fertility, and menopause, and the creative power inherent in femininity. Womb Wisdom encourages women to tune into their bodies, embrace their natural rhythms, and recognise the emotional and spiritual aspects of their reproductive experiences. By honouring this wisdom, women can cultivate self-awareness, empowerment, and a deeper connection to their intuition and purpose.
What is Menstruality?

Menstruality, originally coined by Jane Catherine Severn, and built on by my Mentors at the Red School: The Future of Feminine Spirituality and Leadership, provides a holistic framework for understanding and honouring the experiences and transitions that women go through in relation to our menstrual cycle. Menstruality acknowledges the significance of these initiations; menarche, our menstruating years, menopause and our mature stages of life, we are invited into a deeper exploration of the physical, psychological and spiritual dimensions of womanhood. Menstruality embodies is a psychological death and rebirth that happens each menstrual month, opening the door to expanded levels of consciousness.

What is Menstrual Cycle Awareness?
Menstrual cycle awareness is the practice of understanding and tracking the various phases of the menstrual cycle and how they affect physical, emotional, and mental well-being. This awareness helps women recognise patterns in their energy levels, moods, and overall health throughout the cycle, enabling them to make informed choices about self-care, productivity, and relationships. By embracing menstrual cycle awareness, women can cultivate a deeper connection to their bodies, honur their natural rhythms, and enhance their overall well-being.
I have an irregular cycle, can I practice cycle awareness?

YES! If you have an irregular cycle, it's even more important for you to track your cycle. More times than not, women find that once they begin tracking their cycle, it returns to a more normal length. Regardless of the length of your cycle, you are still able to track your cycle and learn how to navigate your life with more understanding and compassion.

My cycle has gone AWOL, can I practice cycle awareness?

If your cycle has gone missing, you're not pregnant, breastfeeding, or post menopausal, you can still track your cycle and follow the moon cycle. Your cycle can disappear for a number of reasons. Bringing awareness to your cycle in such a focused way and looking at your lifestyle choices may restore a healthy relationship and attitude towards your cycle. Through my work in this field, I've observed women start bleeding again after a time of absence.

Reproductive Health and Special Conditions

I have reproductive health issues, can I practice cycle awareness?

Absolutely. When you suffer from reproductive health issues such as endometriosis, fibroids and PCOS, it can often feel like nothing will help to alleviate the physical and emotional pain. In my late 20s, I developed a number of menstrual health issues and pre-cancerous cells in my cervix so I understand how you may be feeling.

Endometriosis, fibroids, PCOS and many other menstrual related issues have been characterised as conditions of inflammation. Inflammation is primarily caused by toxins that enter our body by way of the food we eat, the air we breathe and the products we use. Stress, unresolved ancestral and our own trauma may cause the body to trigger/maintain stress-responsive systems over longer periods of time which can cause inflammation. Experience has taught me that there are natural ways to heal from this. Menstrual Cycle Awareness and looking at the foods, drinks, beauty and household products you use are the best ways to do this.

I’m on hormonal contraception, can I practice cycle awareness?

The reason you take hormonal contraception may be for contraception or to reduce menstrual problems. While it’s imperative that you have reliable contraception and a way to manage your suffering, hormonal contraception stops your natural cycle and replaces it with synthetic hormones.

Some women say they do feel the inner seasons when on hormonal contraception, some say they don't feel them at all. You know your own body more than anyone so I would suggest tracking your cycle to try to learn more about yourself. If you remain on hormonal contraception and wish to take our course, you are welcome to do so. But please be aware that because you are experiencing a synthetic cycle, you may not be able to get to experience the fullness and utter beauty of who you are.

I'm pregnant, is it worth practicing cycle awareness?

Congratulations Mama! What a gift you have been given to bring a future light being into this world. Currently, you're in a completely different landscape to a menstruating woman and won't be experiencing your cycle in the way you used to. However, if you wish to enrol onto Discover Yourself, I see no harm in doing so. It may help you make sense of where you're at the moment and I have no doubt that it will help you to connect with your womb space more deeply. The course has been designed to be super nourishing and calls for more rest, which you are encouraged to do, especially during this most precious time!

I have some questions about fertility, can you help?

Discover Yourself includes some information and advice on how to improve fertility from trusted resources. Feel free to enrol onto the course to find out more about what may be affecting fertility. I wish you luck in being able to bring another being of light into this world.

I'm approaching or going through menopause, can I practice cycle awareness?

Wise Woman, I honour you for the elder you have become. If you're approaching menopause, you can most certainly practice cycle awareness. If you are currently going through menopause, my article 'Menopause: The Great Awakener' would be helpful for you to read. It gives some context to what you may be experiencing along with providing further guidance and resources to best support you during this new stage in your life.
